About Surcon

Hi, I am Jake Thomson, owner and founder of Surcon.

Welcome to the world of vapour blasting

Growing up I spent many long hours cleaning parts ready for reassembly. Car parts, motorbike parts, boat parts, tractor parts etc. Buckets of petrol, diesel and other expensive degreasers, wire brushes, scrappers, scouring pads, pokers and picks. And still never getting a perfectly clean part, after all attempts parts were only ever ‘’good enough’’ to go back together, I am sure you can relate. I searched long and hard for the ideal solution to quick effective parts restoration and cleaning. But it always came back to harsh solvents and manual labor. After years of thinking I thought of a solution, an invention if you will, that would blast some form of media along with a solvent or degreaser fluid at the part and allow me to clean even the tightest nooks and crannies and finaly give me the effortless clean parts that I always wanted.

Luckily for me this had already been invented. It had a funny name that didn’t really make too much sense. ‘’Vapour blasting”. When I first found out about the idea of vapour blasting and saw the amazing results it seemed just like the thing I needed. Throw the part in the cabinet, blast away, and then without much further ado, pull out a pristine, like new part, if not better.

So why didn’t I just go out and buy one off the shelf? Because as you probably know by now, they are dear as poison. I could never justify $30 grand plus to clean some parts that were already ‘good enough’. And why were all of these ‘machines’ made overseas and not here in Australia?

So, I set out on a mission, to create the first Australian made commercial grade, vapour blasting cabinets. But it wasn’t going to be any old cabinet. If I was going to commit to this I was going to do it right. I was going to use quality components that were built to last. I was going to overcome as many of the problems associated with existing machines as I could. And I was going to make it as affordable as possible so that many more people could enjoy the true value that comes from vapour blasting.

That’s how Surcon was born. From the words ‘’SURface CONditioning’’, I was going to transform the vapour blasting market in Australia by providing not only exceptional machines, but also the aftersales support that everyone deserves when investing in a piece of machinery.

One of the many advantages of the Surcon vapour blasting cabinets is the use of ‘’off the self’’ components. There is nothing worse than having to replace parts on a piece of equipment that you can’t buy anymore or are ridiculously overpriced just because they are specific to a certain machine. So, throughout the design process care was taken to make sure that components are easily sourced from normal retailers. Where possible these parts were to be quality Australian made and where that isn’t possible they would be sourced from other reputable manufacturers.

Another key factor though the design process was to ensure overall simplicity. Not only to reduce cost to the consumer, but to ensure better usability and a longer service life with minimum maintenance requirements. The interior of the cabinets have very few places for media to sit or build up. This means faster cleaning times and less media is lost. Saving time and money. The door of the cabinet itself has an inbuilt gutter along the bottom, not seen on any other cabinets. This keeps the workspace surrounding the cabinet clean, dry and safe.

Don’t have three phase power? Don’t worry, one key feature of our cabinets is that they can be run from a single phase 240v 50hz outlet. No expensive infrastructure costs involved.

Don’t have a big compressor? Don’t worry, we can make things work! Whilst productivity is almost directly proportional to the size and output of your compressor, we understand that not everyone has the space or money for a big compressor. Surcon cabinets can run effectively with as little as 12CFM (340Lpm). While we do recommend an air supply of at least 40CFM for commercial users.

These are just a few of the advantages of Surcon vapour blasting cabinets, there are too many to list.

Hundred of hours of design, engineering and research have gone into making these cabinets what they are today. We hope you enjoy them and they serve you well for many years to come.
